Environmental Recovery of the Surroundings of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas
The environmental recovery project of the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas waterfront emerged with the purpose of rescuing leisure areas composed of tree, shrub and herbaceous vegetation, as well as rehabilitating and proposing new urban equipment for one of the city’s postcards.
The lack of maintenance and the evident deterioration of existing green areas and urban furniture, as well as the lack of planning for the various uses on the site, creates conflicts that make it impossible for users to fully enjoy public space.
This project promotes conservation, maintenance, cleaning, pruning and planting of native vegetation actions, making users aware of the importance of green spaces within cities.
Pruning and conservation activities of arboreal individuals
Species that were mutilated by inadequate pruning were identified, trees of excessive size that endanger the public road in case of strong winds and storms, roots of untouched trees that make it impossible to plant new trees, as well as species without any kind of tutor. This preparatory process of reconditioning the existing trees is essential for the adequate growth of species in conditions of safety for the population.
More than 2,000 trees to be intervened, highlighting the following activities:
– More than 50% of the trees to be pruned or revitalized;
– Suppression of invasive species that compete with native vegetation;
– Detachment of trunk and roots;
– Cleaning of green areas;
– Lawn maintenance and recovery.
