Forest Restoration of Morro da Armação – Niterói
Forest restoration is the process of helping to restore an ecosystem that has been degraded or completely destroyed, towards the health and integrity of the system.
There are many benefits generated by the restoration of native vegetation: protection of regional fauna and flora, conserving genetic resources, control of local erosive processes, creating shelters and feeding areas for wild fauna, restoring and interconnecting forest fragments, expanding the continuous surface forests, as well as fixing atmospheric carbon, contributing to mitigate the effects of global warming, among others.
Initially, Ecologic carried out forest restoration planning with the assessment of the area’s situation. It carries out an environmental diagnosis to verify the state of environmental degradation. This diagnosis will assist in defining the most appropriate restoration technique.
The execution of the project started with the preparation of the area, with weeding and mowing, always preserving the regenerating species, as well as with the fight against ants. Subsequently, the plateaus where the pits were opened and the seedlings were planted with the necessary inputs were subsequently performed.
5,000 native seedlings of the Atlantic Forest Biome were planted on approximately 24,000 m², which will be monitored with periodic maintenance for 48 months.
